Recognizing the Winners
As part of National County Government month activities, fourth graders in Ocean County again created posters choosing what they consider the best qualities of a County that is home to more than 650,000 residents. The contest winners – all fourth graders – were recently honored by the Ocean County Board of Commissioners along with Ocean County Clerk Scott M. Colabella and Ocean County Surrogate Jeffrey W. Moran. The first place winner was Grace Alcid of St. Joseph School, Toms River; second place winner, Abigail Garcia, Manchester School; third place winner, Carter Kelly, Rosenauer School, Jackson Township, and honorable mention, Hugo Gonzalez, Ocean Academy School, Lakewood. Ocean County Clerk Colabella, who leads the annual poster contest, noted that 55 fourth grade pupils entered the contest from 24 schools in Ocean County. The contest winners were selected by the public who cast their “likes” for their favorite poster on Facebook. “The ‘My County’ Poster Contest is a great way to teach our young residents about Ocean County and all it has to offer,” said Deputy Director of the Ocean County Board of Commissioners Gary Quinn, who is liaison to the Ocean County Clerk’s office. “The entire Board of Commissioners is appreciative of all the students who participate in this annual event.”
