Remembering the Fallen

Members of law enforcement, along with the Ocean County Board of Commissioners joined with the family members and loved ones of law enforcement officers from the County that made the ultimate sacrifice while serving the citizens of the County during the 32nd Annual Ocean County Law Enforcement Memorial Day Observance at the Ocean County Police Memorial in Ocean County Park, Lakewood. With precise formation, police motorcycle squads, bag pipes, police honor guards and recruits from the Ocean County Police Academy opened the ceremony recognizing the 20 members of Ocean County’s law enforcement community that grace the Police Memorial during the May 19 ceremony. The names of Sgt. Matthew Horton of the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office, and Captain Joseph Goertz of the Lakewood Police Department were added to the memorial this year. Their names were also entered onto the National Law Enforcement Memorial. The keynote speaker at the day’s ceremony was Barnegat Township Police Chief Keith Germain, President, Ocean County Chiefs of Police Association. Presenting a proclamation recognizing May 19 as Peace Officers Memorial Day on behalf of the Ocean County Board of Commissioners was Commissioner Virginia E. Haines. Music for the ceremony was provided by the Ocean County Vocational Technical Schools Performing Arts Academy Vocal Ensemble and the Point Pleasant High School Panther Concert Band.
