Representatives from law enforcement agencies across Ocean County joined with members of the Ocean County Board of Commissioners, the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office and loved ones of the 20 officers from Ocean County that have made the ultimate sacrifice during the 33rd Annual Ocean County Law Enforcement Memorial Day Observance at the Ocean County Police Academy, Ocean County Park, Lakewood. In giving the keynote address at the ceremony Deputy Director of the Ocean County Board of Commissioners Gary Quinn told the attendees we are all here to remember our selfless public servants who put themselves in harm’s way to keep us safe and honor those who lost their lives in the line of duty. “As we honor the memory of our peace officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice and all those who serve today, it’s during Police Week that we demonstrate our appreciation for the unsung heroes who nobly wear the badge and put their lives at risk to protect us each and every day,” said Quinn who was joined by the Director of the Ocean County Board of Commissioners Barbara Jo Crea and Ocean County Commissioner Frank Sadeghi. Crea presented a proclamation from the Board recognizing May 17 as Police Memorial Day in Ocean County to Brick Township Police Chief David Forrester, representing the Ocean County Police Chiefs Association. Before family members and police department representatives placed red roses in honor of the fallen officers at the Police Memorial, musical selections were provided by the Ocean County Vocational Technical School Performing Arts Academy Vocal Ensemble under the director of Mary Kenny and the Point Pleasant Borough High School Panther Concert Band under the direction of Scott Visco. Police motorcycle squads, bag pipes, police honor guards and recruits from the Ocean County Police Academy opened the ceremony recognizing the 20 members of Ocean County’s law enforcement community that grace the Police Memorial.
