Fair Games and Boardwalk Fun
Ocean County officials joined with New Jersey Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin and the State Division of Consumer Affairs Acting Director Cari Fais on the boardwalk in Seaside Heights for the annual launch of the statewide “Safe Summer” boardwalk compliance program. The event highlights the Division’s annual enforcement initiative designed to promote a family-friendly environment at the Jersey Shore. The program includes summer-long inspections of the boardwalk games for fairness of play, and to ensure they have not been modified to the disadvantage of players. Those who joined Attorney General Platkin were the Deputy Director of the Ocean County Commissioners Gary Quinn, who serves as liaison to the Ocean County Consumer Affairs Department, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer with members of his staff, along with the Director of the Ocean County Consumer Affairs Ronald Heinzman with members of his staff and Seaside Heights Police Chief Thomas Boyd. Consumer Affairs investigators checked boardwalk merchants for compliance with pricing and refund policy disclosures required under law while Legalized Games of Chance Control Commission staff inspected arcade games for fairness of play. Random inspections of scales were also conducted by the State Office of Weights and Measures to ensure accuracy of weighing on the boardwalk. They also handed out educational materials to consumers to empower them as their own best advocates against fraud and deceit in the marketplace.
