Riding for Those Who Died
Police officers from across the nation stopped in Ocean County on Friday, May 9 as part of their annual Police Unity bicycle tour honoring their fallen comrades. The four-day tour from New Jersey to Washington D.C. attracted hundreds of riders from as far away as California. Bikers travelled south through Lakewood, past the Ocean County Justice Complex in downtown Toms River and down Route 9 to the county’s Fire and First Aid Training Academy in Waretown, where they stopped for a well-deserved break. They were joined at the Training Academy by Ocean County Commissioner Virginia E. “Ginny” Haines. From there the officers made a final stop at Tip Seaman County Park in Tuckerton before pedaling across the county line for an overnight stay in Atlantic City. The more than 300-mile bike trek will conclude on Monday at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C.
