Class 124: Ready to Serve

Ocean County Police Academy Basic Police Recruit Class No. 124 was recognized on May 8 during a graduation ceremony at the Georgian Court College, following the successful completion of five months of intensive training under the guidance of Ocean County Sheriff Michael G. Mastronardy. The recruits were joined by family members, loved ones, academy instructors, law enforcement leaders, and Ocean County Commissioner Director Frank Sadeghi and Commissioner Sam Ellenbogen, who both serve as liaisons to the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department.

“To the members of class 124, today is more than a graduation. It is a turning point,” said Ellenbogen. “Today marks the moment when preparation gives way to responsibility, and when everything you have learned begins to take shape in the real world.

Special awards were given to Tyler M. Verge of the Seaside Park Police Department for High Physical Fitness; James J. Spampanato of the Jackson Township Police Department for High Marksmanship; Anthony S. Barthel of the Sea Girt Police Department for High Academic; and Sayer Zimmerman of the Long Beach Township Police Department for High Overall. The James J. Tracey Leadership Award was awarded to Sayer Zimmerman, Long Beach Township Police Department.  The Robert D. Melson Police Training Commission Merit Award was awarded to Rock G. Wester III, Seaside Park Police Department.
