Ocean County Commissioners Frank Sadeghi and Jennifer Bacchione joined other local officials, veterans and advocates at the groundbreaking of the Tunnels to Towers Foundation’s Veterans Village in Berkeley Township on May 7. The ceremonies included a flyover by a NJ State Police helicopter and a detailed display of the 99 apartments and 24 small houses that will soon be available to qualified veterans. Frank Siller, CEO of the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, said the nonprofit is named for his younger brother Stephen, a New York City firefighter who ran through the closed Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel on September 11, 2001 to assist victims in the World Trade Center. Stephen was killed when the twin towers collapsed. Veterans Village will be located on Route 9 and the corner of Sloop Creek Road in Bayville.
