Celebrating 100 Years of Public Health
Since its establishment in 1924, the Ocean County Health Department has flawlessly delivered public health services to the residents and visitors of Ocean County. Whether responding to natural disasters like Superstorm Sandy, unprecedented health crises like the Coronavirus Pandemic, encouraging childhood vaccinations, or simply to teach the importance of good nutrition for babies or dental health, the Ocean County Health Department continues to meet the needs of the growing and diverse population. Recognizing the significance of this milestone, the Ocean County Board of Commissioners joined with members of the Ocean County Board of Health and Health Department staff on April 10 for a ceremony celebrating 100 years of public health. Ocean County Public Health Coordinator Daniel E. Regenye served as Master of Ceremonies, while Deputy Director of the Ocean County Board of Commissioners Gary Quinn, who serves as liaison to the Ocean County Health, John (Jack) Mallon, Chairman of the Ocean County Board of Health and Sen. Robert Singer, Vice Chairman of the Ocean County Board of Health provided remarks. Director of the Ocean County Board of Commissioners Barbara Jo Crea also presented a proclamation with Deputy Director Quinn and Ocean County Commissioner Frank Sadeghi to the Board of Health recognizing the 100th anniversary of public health in Ocean County.
In addition, the ceremony marked the ground breaking for a new warehouse at the Ocean County Health Department located on Sunset Avenue in Toms River. The 5,000 square foot building will include a storage area, clinic areas, and offices and will enable rapid deployment of services when the need arises such as COVID-19 testing and other health related illnesses.
