Adults with special challenges were the honored guests at the main branch of the Ocean County Library, Washington Street, Toms River, on Oct. 8 as they enjoyed the library’s annual Harvest Friendship Dance. Whether dancing to the Macarena, learning line dancing, posing for photos and participating in a scavenger hunt, the more than 100 adults with special challenges took part in a host of activities in the library’s Mancini Hall. The Harvest Friendship Dance is run by the library’s Adults with Special Challenges Committee. The DJ and refreshments were sponsored by the Ocean County Library Foundation. Ocean County Commissioner Virginia E. Haines, liaison to the Ocean County Library, noted the Ocean County Library is so much more than books. “This event provided an opportunity for adults with special challenges to enjoy an event planned especially for them,” Haines said. “We appreciate the extra steps the library staff takes to provide an atmosphere of inclusivity for all.” Haines joined Ocean County Library Director Susan Quinn and staff at the event.
