Dedicating History
In the Old Methodist Church Cemetery located on the corner of Washington Street and Hooper Avenue in Toms River, stands a new Patriot Burials plaque dedicated to the American Revolution Patriots buried in the cemetery. Thanks to a partnership with the New Jersey Society of the Sons of the American Revolution and the William G. Pomeroy Foundation, the first of two signs in New Jersey, with the second being at the Old Manahawkin Methodist Cemetery in Stafford Township were recently placed to honor the Patriots who fought for our nation’s independence. At least two Revolutionary War veterans, W. Williams and T. Page are interred in the Old Methodist Church Cemetery in Toms River. As of November 2023, eight signs have been authorized for cemeteries in Ocean County. During the unveiling ceremony, special guests on hand included Ocean County Department of Parks and Recreation Director Michael T. Mangum, who also serves as the President to the Richard J. Sommers Chapter of the NJSSAR, Ocean County Commissioner Virginia E. Haines, who serves as the Regent of Joshua Huddy National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, Toms River Township Mayor Maurice “Mo” Hill, as well as Diane Waugh Oliver, State Regent for the NJDAR and Charles Morgan, Past President of the NJSSAR.
