Remember, Honor and Teach
Home to more than 30,000 veterans, Ocean County welcomed the Wreaths Across America (WAA) organization as it made a stop in Point Pleasant Beach, New Jersey during its annual pilgrimage from Harrington, Maine to Arlington National Ceremony. The convoy of trucks, law enforcement, staff and supporters was greeted by residents, local officials and veterans for the ceremonial wreaths presentation, which included a wreath laying in the Manasquan Inlet for the souls lost at sea. David “Mel” Russen, location leader for Wreaths Across America and the Master of Ceremonies for the event, mentioned that this was the first ceremony to ever honor the souls lost and buried at sea. The Director of the Ocean County Board of Commissioners Barbara Jo Crea was joined with George R.P. Zimmerman, Director of the Ocean County Veterans Service Bureau in presenting Karen Worcester, the Executive Director of WAA with a proclamation from the Ocean County Board of Commissioners. WAA’s volunteers work tirelessly year round to promote its mission to Remember the fallen, Honor those who serve, and Teach our children the value of freedom.
