Thank You for Your Service
The services of the Ocean County Veterans Service Bureau were highlighted during the Feb. 19 Ocean County Board of Commissioners meeting. Veterans representing each branch of the military attended the meeting and noted how the work of the bureau has helped them following their service to our country. More than 30,000 veterans call Ocean County home, the largest veteran population in the state. The main office of the Ocean County Veterans Service Bureau is located on the first floor of the Ocean County One-Stop Center, 1027 Hooper Ave., Toms River, and provides numerous services including initiating and filing veteran’s claims with both the state and federal government, filing for death benefits, filing for burial benefits and filing for other entitlements. The Veterans Service Bureau, headed up by Director George R. P. Zimmerman Jr. also facilitates transportation to V.A. medical centers, lends wheelchairs and walkers to disabled veterans and serves as a referral source for mental health, medical and social service agencies. Services provided by the Bureau can also be accessed at outreach sites at the Southern Ocean County Southern Services Center in Manahawkin and at 82 Lacey Road in Whiting. Ocean County Commissioner Robert S. Arace serves as the Board liaison to the Bureau which is staffed by well-trained and knowledgeable veteran services officers.
