The Ocean County Board of Commissioners recently recognized Sarah Mangum, from Barnegat Township, as she pursues her Silver Award in Girl Scouting.\u00a0\u00a0 Sarah, an eighth grader, who has an interest in becoming an architect decided to draw from that possible profession and create a kiosk from start to finish that now stands at the trail head of the County\u2019s Cedar Bridge Tavern Historic Site in Barnegat Township. The kiosk contains important safety and park information and will assist visitors well into the future. Sarah tapped into the skills of her friends and family as her volunteer team and with the assistance of Ocean County Parks and Recreation staff, capably completed the project in the 50 hour time frame provided by the Girl Scouts of the USA. Sarah was recently joined at the site of the kiosk by Ocean County Commissioner Virginia E. Haines, Chairwoman of the Ocean County Department of Parks and Recreation, department staff, her parents and family members as she was recognized by the Board of Commissioners for her accomplishment. Haines noted that preserving the history of Ocean County is a priority of the Board of Commissioners. \u201cYour successful efforts in designing, building, and installing an informational kiosk for the trail head at Cedar Bridge Tavern, rumored to be the site of the last skirmish of the American Revolution on Dec. 27, 1782, will help educate visitors of the significance of the area,\u201d she said. \u201cWe recognize your dedication and your outstanding work in order to achieve this top ranking in scouting. Your leadership and your service to the community have enduring value. Your efforts are helping to make Ocean County a better place.\u201d In addition to being an honor student at the Brackman Middle School, Sarah has also volunteered at Ocean County Parks and Recreation events.\u00a0 She has participated in Wreaths across America and is a member\u00a0of the Children of the American Revolution where she has served as chaplain.<\/p>\n\n\t\t
