Data Collection continues at Cattus Island

Stevens staff and students spent the spring collecting data on the physical conditions impacting the shorelines of Cattus Island. In early February they collected wave data at Pages Point and Yellow Bank during Winter Storm Orlena. In April and May, they collected bathymetry (underwater elevation) data using Real Time Kinematic GPS units mounted on backpacks and jetskis.

Cattus Island also served as the muse for Dr. Miller's Spring Design of Living Shorelines class. As a part of the class, students learned about the site and created conceptual designs for various segments of the shoreline based on what they learned in the class. Several of the students, including three international students, visited the site in April and felt it was one of the most unique and valuable experiences in their academic careers.
