Please be advised that in compliance with New Jersey Governor Murphy's Declaration of a State of Emergency and Public Health Emergency; DCA's Guidance for Remote Public Meetings; and P.L. 2020 c. 11, the Ocean County Shade Tree Commission meetings will be available to the public remotely via TEAMS consistent with guidance for public meetings. County office buildings are open to the public. Public planning to attend should call ahead to Ocean County Engineering Department at (732) 929-2130 for instructions.

Mission of the Ocean County Shade Tree Commission

The OCSTC was created by resolution of the Ocean County Board of Commissioners in December, 1990. The resolution states that the purposes of the Commission include to "protect and preserve shade and ornamental trees and shrubbery along County roadways and to advise and assist County agencies in the proper care, planting and control of shade trees, ornamental trees and shrubbery on County property.”

The OCSTC adopted the following mission statement:

To maintain and promote a healthy, safe and sustainable shade tree resource that will physically, economically, and aesthetically benefit the County and its residents in the most cost-effective manner possible.

Time: Monthly meetings are held on the second Thursday at 3:00 pm (unless otherwise indicated)

Big Tree Registry

Ocean County has launched a Big Tree Registry, a compilation of the largest native and naturalized tree species in the county. These trees, nominated by Ocean County residents will have environmental and historical value and should be conserved for future generations.
