Commission on Child Safety & Awareness

About the Commission

The Ocean County Commission on Child Safety & Awareness was established in 1984 as an advisory board to the Ocean County Board of Commissioners to study the needs and promote the rights of our children.

The Commission works closely with the Ocean County Sheriff Department's Special Projects Unit, to provide safety and awareness information for children and their parents and caregivers through programs and outreach activities including the Child Identification Program.

We also partner and coordinate with various groups in Ocean County that offer safety and protection programs for children.

Our Mission

The Commission sponsors and participates in conferences, public child safety and awareness programs and outreach activities, and public speaking engagements.

The Commission recognizes Missing Children's Day annually on May 25th by promoting child safety and child identification cards in Ocean County.

Child Identification Program

The Ocean County Sheriff's Office - Special Projects Unit, provides child ID cards at no cost to the parents and/or caregivers of children 12 years of age and younger.

The child ID card is a laminated, wallet-sized card containing a current photograph and fingerprints taken by the Special Projects Unit and current information given by the parent/caregiver of the child.

The card can be kept with the parents and/or caregivers to use as an identification tool in case of an emergent situation involving the child.

Contact us for more information on this program.
