On December 17, 2025, Ocean County bid farewell to two pillars of public service—Commissioners John P. “Jack” Kelly and Virginia “Ginny” E. Haines—during their final Board of Commissioners meeting.

Lighting the Way

The Ocean County Board of Commissioners joined residents, local officials, and members of the Jewish community to celebrate Hanukkah during the County’s annual Menorah Lighting ceremony on Dec. 15 at the Ocean County Administration Building in Toms River.

New Space to Play at Cattus Island

With ceremonial scissors in hand, Ocean County Commissioner Robert S. Arace, Chairman of the Ocean County Department of Parks and Recreation, was joined with Ocean County Commissioner Jennifier Bacchione, Ocean County Commissioner Virginia E. Haines, Ocean County Administrator Michael J. Fiure, Mary Jane Bavais, Director of the Ocean County Department of Parks and Recreation and staff during a ribbon cutting on Nov. 24 for the new playground at Cattus Island County Park, 1170 Cattus Island Boulevard, Toms River.

Honoring America’s Roots

As the Nation continues its multi-year commemoration of America’s 250th anniversary, the Ocean County Board of Commissioners joined the Ocean County Cultural and Heritage Commission and the Ocean County Parks and Recreation Department for the annual Countdown to Independence commemoration.

Breaking Ground on Skills and Homes

Members of the Ocean County Board of Commissioners joined Ocean County Vocational Technical School students and professionals, Berkeley Township officials, community partners and donors for the ceremonial start of a new home in Berkeley Township on Nov. 13.
