3/5/2026 - Ocean County Commissioners Unanimously Support New Jersey Senate President Nick Scutari’s Push to Repeal the Radical “REAL” Rule |
OCEAN COUNTY – Led by Ocean County Commissioner Director Frank Sadeghi, the Ocean County Board of Commissioners today praised a new legislative resolution filed by New Jersey Senate President Nick Scutari that would repeal the New Jersey Resilient Environments and Landscapes Rule, (NJ REAL Rule) and simultaneously called on legislators in both parties to adopt it as expeditiously as possible.
Ocean County has been at the forefront of the fight against the NJ REAL Rule for well over a year, with Commissioner Sadeghi penning an op-ed calling on the State to abandon the plan back in November 2024, and the entire board since launching an citizen education campaign, passing a resolution opposing the measure, and moving towards a legal challenge after it was ultimately adopted on Murphy's final day in office.
In a joint statement, Director Sadeghi and his colleagues said the following: "We commend the Senate President for taking this bold and decisive step towards repealing the disastrous and ill-conceived ‘REAL Rule' before it does significant harm to Jersey Shore residents and our economic future. The Senate President's assessment that these regulations would destroy property values and increase regulatory costs, and that they represent a significant constitutional overstep by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP), are one-hundred percent spot on," said Commissioners Sadeghi, Robert S. Arace, Jennifier Bacchione, Sam Ellenbogen and Ray Gormley. "We thank members of our delegation in Ocean County for standing with us in this fight and urge every member of the State Legislature to adopt Senate President Scutari's measure when it comes before them for a vote."
Sadeghi and the Commissioners also recognized the efforts of other Jersey Shore counties and their elected representatives for their efforts to push back at the NJDEP radical proposal. |
