TOMS RIVER, NJ – Since its establishment in 1977, Ocean Ride Transportation Services has played an essential role in providing accessible and affordable transportation to residents throughout Ocean County.

In an effort to continue these services, the Ocean County Board of Commissioners recently approved the grant allocation of $475,000 from New Jersey Transit's Job Access and Reverse Commute (NJ JARC) Program. This funding will provide Ocean Ride's operation of the OC10 Toms River Connection, a fixed-route service providing transportation six days per week during the winter season and seven days per week during the summer season, from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

"Over the last 25 years, the OC10 Toms River Connection has averaged nearly 90,000 trips per year," said Ocean County Commissioner Robert S. Arace, liaison to Transportation Services. "This service provides residents with access to jobs, doctor's appointments, shopping and other everyday necessities."

The OC10 route connects Toms River, Seaside Heights, and Lavallette, making stops at the Community Medical Center, the Ocean County Government Complex, the Ocean County Mall, and more.
"Receiving this grant funding will help us continue to provide this vital service for our citizens who do not have their own transportation readily available," Arace said.

The NJ JARC Program awards competitive grants to support transportation services that enable low-income individuals to access employment and job training opportunities, thereby improving their quality of life.

Funding provided through this program supports flexible, community-focused services designed to reduce transportation barriers and enhance rider independence and mobility. Participating local service providers are required to match program funds on a 50/50 basis, and all approved projects must address a clearly defined transportation gap or unmet need.

"Ocean Ride has provided over 2.25 million trips for our residents since 2001," said Arace. "As we continue to improve our transportation system, I want to extend our appreciation to the staff of Ocean Ride who make certain that we are providing the best services possible."
