Smoke Alarm / Carbon Monoxide Alarm Compliance InspectionNew Jersey State Law requires a Smoke Alarm/Carbon Monoxide Alarm if you sell rent your 1 or 2 family home.
The inspection certificate is valid for 12 months from the date of inspection.
Seasonal Rentals can have multiple changes of tenants within the 12 month period. For example, if you rent seasonally, you can have the property inspected in January and have multiple changes of tenants until the following January.
Year round rentals only require an inspection when you have a change of renters after the initial inspection and when that year has expired. Example: If you do not rent seasonally and have the same tenant for the entire or more, you only need to have the home inspected when you have a change of renters one year after the initial inspection.
