[06/26/25] Big News! Ocean County's Electronic Waste Program is Expanding!

The Ocean County Board of Commissioners is pleased to announce the expansion of the County’s Electronic Waste Recycling Program. In addition to televisions, computers, and phones, which are mandated to be recycled under New Jersey law, the program now accepts a wider range of small household electronics.

Residents can now drop off items such as microwaves, coffee makers, blenders, toasters, DVD players, game consoles, string lights, solar lights, and solar-powered generators. These items can be brought to the Special Waste drop-off areas at both the Northern Recycling Center in Lakewood and the Southern Recycling Center in Manahawkin.

Each year, Ocean County collects approximately 100 tons (or 200,000 pounds) of electronic waste from residents, helping to keep harmful materials out of landfills and ensure responsible recycling.

Please note, large appliances, gasoline-powered tools or generators, items containing Freon (like refrigerators and air conditioners), as well as CDs and VHS tapes are not accepted through this program. Residents are encouraged to bring large metal items to a scrap yard and visit our website for disposal options for other excluded items.

As always, residents can rest assured that all personal data from computers, tablets, and phones is securely destroyed in compliance with industry standards.

Electronic waste is accepted Monday through Saturday, from 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Northern Recycling Center (Special Waste Building 68), located at 601 New Hampshire Avenue in Lakewood, and the Southern Recycling Center (Special Waste Building 105), located at 379 Haywood Road in Manahawkin.
