AVOID THE SPARK There are hidden dangers tied to improper handling and disposal of batteries at end-of-life. Some batteries can spark, which has led to a surge in fires at recycling and waste facilities across the country. To learn more please visit Call2Recycle Avoid the Spark Campaign

The Ocean County Department of Solid Waste Management has partnered with Call2Recycle to bring this battery recycling program to Ocean County residents free of charge. Batteries covered under the program include:

. Nickel Cadmium (Ni-Cd)
. Nickel Metal Hydride (N|-MH)
. Lithium lon (Li-ion)
. Nickel Zinc (Ni-Zn)
. Small Sealed Lead - less the 11lbs (Pb)

Rechargeable batteries are found in cordless power tools, cell phones, laptops, digital cameras, two-way radios, camcorders, and remote control toys. Rechargeable batteries often resemble non-rechargeabler alkaline batteries. The label on the battery will indicate whether or not it is rechargeable.

Rechargeable and button batteries should be recycled while all other (i.e. non-rechargeable) batteries, such as alkaline, can be disposed of in your regular household trash. OR visit Call2Recycle to learn more about Zero Waste solutions for battery disposal (there may be fees for these services). Additionally, Staples receives Alkaline batteries for recycling.
